Examples of fads include fidget spinners and the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. Fidget spinners are toys that gained immense popularity in a short period of time. When they first emerged, you couldn’t go many places without seeing at least a few people with this spinning toy in their hands. As quickly as this toy became popular, it faded into obscurity. Also a fad, the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge went viral on social media. Individuals were posting videos of themselves getting covered in buckets of ice cold water. Participants then nominated family and friends, all in an effort to raise awareness for ALS. The popularity of these videos also waned after a short time.
